Delta often gets a bad rap amongst my friends, but it’s never been bad about losing your luggage. Now – Delta is rolling out a new real time bag tracking system that is supposed to ensure that more than ever, you both get to the same place at the same time.
Using a similar technology to what is ini Disney’s MagicBand, your Delta luggage will now be tagged with a special Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag. This little chip, which is now inside the standard luggage tracking tags, allows Delta to track your bags in real-time using radio waves being emitted. As the bag travel through the system, scanners monitor it’s progress relaying that information both to the Baggage ground crews and right to you, the passenger.
Costing around $50 million to build – the real time checked luggage tracking system not only helps the flow of luggage behind the scenes, but allows you to see where your stuff is through an app on your cell phone. The new high tech system is being rolled out to 84 airports across the country. If you’d like to give it a try on your next Delta flight, go ahead and download the app from Google Play or the the App Store.
Does this new app increase your desire to fly with Delta? Would tracking your luggage as it moves through the airport give you peace of mind, or stress you out even more? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!
